Malamih is a secular, independent, Egyptian publishing house that aims to
diversify the Egyptian/Arab literary field with works new in style and
content.
We have published 31 books covering a wide range of genres, in both Arabic
and English, and are now calling for submissions in English.
Malamih is especially interested in first-time authors, Egypt-centric
works, and works promoting the values of human rights, the civil state,
freedom, justice and equality. We welcome, however, submissions of all
kinds, both fiction and non-fiction.
As well as books by individual authors, we aim to publish a compilation of
English-language short stories by Egyptian writers.
Those interested should submit queries, or samples of their work along
with a brief letter of introduction, to

Ex malo bonum
Out of evil comes good (St. Augustine of Hippo).
Over the past three decades, and ever since I first heard them from a professor of philosophy at the American University in Cairo,
I have often pondered over these two contradictory Latin phrases that have been cause for much debate over the centuries.
Amr Khaled, the author,Mohamed el Sharkawi, the publisher and "Velo" an Egyptian tale,
resolve the conflict in favor of the beliefs of St.
Augustine and against the claims of the Roman philosopher,Seneca. Together they represent the good that comes out of evil. |
